Timberwolves’ season-long rollercoaster continues

Friday’s loss to Brooklyn was a perfect encapsulation of Minnesota’s 2022-23 campaign. The Wolves controlled play for the first half, then the defense failed them miserably in the third frame, and the offense followed suit. Minnesota then turned up its defensive intensity over the final five-plus minutes of regulation to give itself a chance. And just when it looked as though it would fall short, Naz Reid hit a triple at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. You might assume Minnesota would ride that wave of momentum to victory, but that was not the case, as Brooklyn simply out-executed the Wolves in the extra session.Up and down, all around — the Timberwolves’ rollercoaster ride continues.Such is life in the NBA. Teams gain and lose leads throughout 48 minutes, just as they go through stretches of good and poor play over the course of an 82-game season.Yet few teams seem to experience the high highs and low lows the Wolves have endured throughout their seas...Ellendale homicide becomes murder-suicide investigation

Denver’s resiliency was pronounced and unequivocal. It just came too late.Had Nikola Jokic’s turnaround 3-pointer at the buzzer dropped, the Nuggets would’ve erased a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit that would’ve snapped their losing streak. Their defense would’ve been celebrated. Their toughness and tenacity championed.Instead, the Nuggets’ lethargic effort for most of the afternoon dug a hole too deep to recover from, resulting in a 122-120 loss to the Nets, their third consecutive loss. The defeat dropped them to 46-22 overall and 30-6 at home with a five-game road trip on deck.“It happens,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said, citing another lopsided quarter that swung the game. “… We probably spoiled a lot of people.”Jokic finished with 35 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists, nearly willing his team back from its huge deficit. That it came with Jamal Murray injured — he didn’t play late due to left knee soreness — would’ve made it even more impressive...Photos from the 2023 Oscars: red carpet, ceremony, and more
