Hotter summers, warmer winters? New climate report offers scalding outlooks (NEXSTAR) — It might be hard to think of warmer days — especially with a strong El Niño likely to bring more snow this year — but a new federal climate report shows the U.S. could face dire heat in the coming decades at the hands of global warming. The Fifth National Climate Assessment, released earlier this month, shows the planet will likely heat up by an average of between 4.5 and 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit compared to pre-industrial times — outpacing goals of both the U.S. and international community, The Hill reports. The U.S. is likely to see significant temperature changes: at 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit of global warming, the average temperature here could rise between 4.4 and 5.6 degrees, the report explains.Alaska is expected to be the hardest hit, with some areas seeing the average temperature jump by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the coming decades.Elsewhere in the U.S., the Midwest, Northeast, and much of the mountainous West could see the average temperatures...

Keeler: CU Buffs star Travis Hunter’s worst enemy in Utah wasn’t awful Pac-12 refs. It was Deion Sanders’ game management SALT LAKE CITY — The elephant in the room had only one timeout left in his trunk for the final 19 minutes and change. In a close game. On the road. With a backup quarterback.“(There) was a substitution kind-of situation that went on there,” CU football coach Deion Sanders explained to me after a 23-17 loss to Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium early Saturday night.“(And) I’ve got to protect us. I can’t let us — we can’t lose five yards. So we (were) gonna have to take a timeout (early in the third quarter). I understand what you’re saying. But in the prominent time, we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do at that time.”A 3-0 start doesn’t become 4-8 without the help of many hands. Including those at the very top. Utah — and, yeah, these are the Utes, it’s what they do — wound up hogging the ball, largely on the ground, for 16 of the game’s final 20 minutes. With Travis Hunter cooking, the Buffs’ two-...

In the Bay Area, 1 in 4 millennials (and 3 in 4 Gen Zers) still live at home After Kelly Zhao earned a master’s degree in ethnic studies from UCLA last year, she followed the lead of so many other young graduates thrust into a competitive job market: She moved back in with her parents while she looked for work.Upon returning to her childhood home in Pittsburg, Zhao, 25, soon found a job with a local advocacy group, making around $70,000 a year. But even then, she said, renting an apartment just doesn’t make financial sense right now, especially while contributing around $1,500 a month toward her parents’ mortgage.“I realized that it’s going to be really hard to move out,” said Zhao, whose younger sister, also in her 20s, lives with the family, too. “I think I’ll be at home at least for another year or two.
