Stand-up comic and actor Jim Gaffigan may have just broken the record for the most shows in a single run at the historic Paramount Theatre. The affably grumpy Gaffigan, 57, is a Denver favorite who typically sells out a show of any size in the metro area, from arenas to the relatively intimate 1,865-seat Paramount. And on Wednesday, promoter AEG Presents Rocky Mountains said Gaffigan is meeting demand by adding a whopping seventh show to his Jan. 10-14, 2024, run there. It’s very likely the longest run, and largest number of shows, for a touring artist’s visit to the downtown venue, according to industry sources, as well as a Denver Post review of various historical calendars for the venue. At the very least, it would appear to be a 21st century record. It’s no small achievement. The Denver icon, built as a Publix (no, really) movie house in 1930 and designed by local architect Temple Buell — he of the nearby Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre — is internationally...GOP and Dems handed gavel to extreme speaker

Congress let us down by handing Mike Johnson the gavelThe House Democrats shot themselves in the foot by continuing to only vote for Hakeem Jeffries for speaker. When moderate Republican non-Trumper Tom Emmer was nominated, they could have voted him in easily and had a speaker who could work both sides of the aisle as well as anyone. But no, their continued holdout resulted in Republican conservative, anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, pro-Trump Mike Johnson. Watch what you vote (or don’t) vote for; you just might get it.Jerry Witt, Commerce CityOur democracy just seemed to be further threatened by the election of Mike Johnson as U.S. House Speaker. While I was saddened to hear the death threats against Rep. Ken Buck, I am more sad that those threats actually may have influenced him to vote for Johnson, a 2020 election denier who schemed to reject electors in crucial battleground states. In voting for Johnson, Buck, along with Reps. Last week, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken headed for the Middle East to try to keep Israel’s war in Gaza from spinning out of control, and to begin talks on what diplomats call “the day after” — what happens after the shooting stops.Who will govern a shattered Gaza? Who will feed and house its refugees?Who will police its ravaged streets? And perhaps improbably, can the war, however brutal its toll, be turned into an opening for a wider peace?“When this crisis is over, there has to be a vision of what comes next,” President Biden said last month. “And in our view, it has to be a two-state solution” — an agreement under which a sovereign Palestinian state would live side by side with Israel, with security guarantees for both.Blinken took that message to Tel Aviv on Friday, beginning with a plea to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for “humanitarian pauses” to get food and water to civilians trapped in Gaza.Netanyahu s...Sale closed in Los Gatos: $2.1 million for a three-bedroom home
