UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations chief warned on the eve of World Press Freedom Day that the media is under attack in every corner of the world and urged all nations to stop the targeting of truth and those who report it. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the 50% increase in the killing of media workers in 2022 “unbelievable,” stressing that freedom of the press “is the foundation of democracy and justice” and it is under threat.At least 67 media worked were killed in 2022. A longtime Prince George’s County, Maryland, police officer was convicted Tuesday of assaulting a handcuffed teen after a 2020 traffic stop.Prince George’s County police Cpl. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A shot was fired at a Memphis television station on Tuesday, but no one was wounded, the station said.The suspect then hid in a nearby business before he was arrested about two hours later, police said. WHBQ, the Fox affiliate in Tennessee’s second-largest city, reported that the shot was fired about 11:30 a.m. The bullet came down outside the front door of the lobby of the building, which is in a commercial area near the University of Memphis campus.Police said the armed suspect went into a nearby hamburger restaurant, and authorities advised the public to stay out of the area. The university and Memphis police said about two hours later that the suspect had been taken into custody. No injuries were reported, Memphis police said. DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado is losing ground in national rankings, mainly due to perceptions of crime and affordability. The Centennial State has been falling in the rankings of the best overall states by U.S. News and World Report. The annual report uses survey data from over 70,000 respondents to drill down each state's performance in eight categories: health care, education, economy, opportunity, infrastructure, crime & corrections, fiscal stability and natural environment. A man has been airlifted to the hospital after being shot at a South Florida Walmart. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the Walmart, located at 3001 N. State Road 7, Tuesday afternoon.
