Gophers football: A few breaks for (or against) Minnesota would tell much different stories

In a slightly alternate reality, the Gophers football team could be 7-2 right now — if they would have held onto late leads against Northwestern and Illinois. In another not-so-different parallel universe, Minnesota also could be 3-6 — if they weren’t able to finish off nail-biters against Iowa and Nebraska. In the real world, the U sits at an average 5-4, with three regular-season games left to become bowl eligible with one more victory and still find a way to challenge for the Big Ten West title with multiple wins and help from others.“Two heartbreaking losses, but we’ve also had two celebratory wins that were incredibly close,” head coach P.J. Fleck said Tuesday. “One of them we haven’t done against a ranked Iowa team since 1981. There are things that this team is doing that are really special, and there are things that we are doing that we have to nip in the bud as fast as we can or it will keep happening.”Coming off Saturday’s 27-26 loss to Illinois, Gophers players were re...CDTA launches new Purple line, connecting Capital Region public transit

BEAR, Del. (AP) — President Joe Biden, arguably the nation's biggest Amtrak fan, visited a train maintenance shop in his home state of Delaware on Monday to showcase more than $16 billion in federal investments for rail travel along the busy Northeast Corridor, saying of long-delayed improvements, “we're finally getting it done.” The president highlighted spending to modernize 25 passenger train projects between Boston and Washington at an event in Bear, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from Biden’s home in Wilmington. “Why, in the United States of America, do we not have the best rail system in the world?” Biden asked. Noting that better train service in some of America's busiest locales would help ease car traffic and potentially reduce fossil fuel use, he added, “There's so much more we can do to better the environment and quality of life.” Amtrak runs about 800,000 trips daily on its Northeast Corridor, the White House says, which makes it the nation’s busiest rail corridor. Even without their political differences, Angelina Jolie had understandable reasons for keeping her father Jon Voight at a distance for much of her life. The Academy Award-winning actor had cheated on her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, and left her to raise Jolie and her brother on her own.But in recent years, Jolie, 48, and Voight, 84, reportedly reconciled. She told Vanity Fair in 2017 that he helped her after her bitter, high-profile split from Brad Pitt. She said he had been “very good at understanding” that her six children needed their grandfather and that he was happy to play the “cool grandpa,” telling them stories and reading books to them. This famously fraught daughter/father relationship is back in the spotlight after Voight came out pretty strongly against Jolie over their different views on the Israel-Hamas war. He recorded a video on Instagram over the weekend, saying he was “very disappointed” that she spoke in defense of Palestinians...Daly City grandmother escapes Gaza, lawsuit against U.S. officials dropped
