Activists and family members are speaking out against the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s decision not to file charges in the deputy-involved deaths of two teens in two separate shootings.  “He doesn’t get to pick and choose what cases he prosecutes,” activist and translator Alejandro Villalpando said of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. Two separate families gathered Monday on the steps of the Hall of Justice building in downtown Los Angeles to demand action for the deaths of the two teens.  Translating for the father of one of the victims, 18-year-old Andres Guardado, Villalpando said the grieving father can’t understand why the district attorney would decide the shooting deaths were not homicides.  The 18-year-old was shot five times in the back by sheriff’s deputies on June 18, 2020. Deputies said they saw him with a handgun. In a memo from the DA’s office to the Los Angeles Times, officials said the teen complied with orders to drop ...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom left Monday night’s start against the Kansas City Royals after four hitless innings because of a sore right wrist. The team said deGrom was removed as a precaution. He struck out five and walked one, throwing 39 of his 58 pitches for strikes. Two relievers finished a one-hitter for the Rangers in a 4-0 victory.“I felt it a little bit warming up,” deGrom said. “I thought it was going to loosen up and it actually tightened up a little bit as the game went on.“We’re playing it smart. Could I have kept going? Probably. But it was lingering and it got a little bit worse as the game went on. I just want to play it safe. We’ve got a long season ahead of us.”Beset by injuries the past two seasons with the New York Mets, the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner signed a $185 million, five-year contract with Texas as a free agent in December. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA in four starts for the Rangers.“I’m honestly not too con...

The shot also snapped Soler’s career 0-for-10 slide against Webb.“The exciting part of it was that it put our team ahead,” Soler said. “The hitting coach told me today to move up and closer to the plate if I had an opportunity to face him. Perhaps that’s the reason for the result.”Webb’s outing ended after Soler’s blast. In his first start since signing a five-year $90 million contract extension ...
