My family strongly supported Matt’s homegrown vision for a San Jose that works stridently and compassionately for all.Mahan says there are enough resources to build secure individual cottages or casitas on public lands to house the homeless. He writes that is exactly what was done after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle let it be known Thursday they are returning to New York City next Tuesday for what sounds like a very good cause. However, for this sometimes-polarizing couple, this Big Apple trip also marks a return to the city where they suffered their biggest-ever public relations debacle. That was in May, when they were accused of exaggerating claims that they had been the targets of a “near-catastrophic” car chase through the streets of Manhattan. In an announcement shared “exclusively” with People, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they are marking Mental Health Day by participating is an Archewell Foundation event. The “Mental Wellness in a Digital Age” summit will look at how families and communities can build a safer online world for children and teens. What’s not mentioned in this announcement is whether the couple and their team will be better equipped to avoid the controversies and security issues that have surround...Drone attack kills at least 80 at Syrian military graduation

By Kareem Chehayeb and Albert Aji | Associated PressBEIRUT — A drone attack hit a crowded military graduation ceremony Thursday in the Syrian city of Homs, killing 80 people and wounding 240, the health minister said, in one of the deadliest recent attacks on an army that’s been fighting a civil war for more than a decade. The strike killed civilians, including six children, as well as military personnel, and there were concerns the death toll could rise as many of the wounded were in serious condition, Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabash said.Syria’s military said in an earlier statement that drones laden with explosives targeted the ceremony packed with young officers and their families as it was wrapping up. Without naming any particular group, the military accused insurgents “backed by known international forces” of the attack and said “it will respond with full force and decisiveness to these terrorist organizations, wherever they exist.”No grou...Construction kicks off on bilingual charter school in Morgan Hill

SAN FRANCISCO — Steph Curry has a few ideas for what to name the Bay Area’s new WNBA franchise. None that he’s willing to share.“I don’t give out those ideas for free,” Curry said.Team name ideas were flowing during Warriors practice on Thursday, happening in the practice facility below the court where officials officially announced that the franchise would be bringing a new, temporarily nameless WNBA team to San Francisco and Oakland.“Something that resembles the characteristics of the Bay Area,” Klay Thompson said. The team name will come. First, the Bay Area can revel in excitement. The Warriors core know best how much the Bay Area’s interest in basketball has skyrocketed since their team started dominating the NBA nearly 10 years ago.
