Andrew Benintendi began the bottom of the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a bang, hitting a home run to right field. It was the first homer of the spring for Benintendi, who joined the White Sox on a five-year deal in the offseason.Jake Burger continued his strong spring at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 6-4 loss at Camelback Ranch. Both hits were singles. Here are three more takeaways from Saturday at Sox camp.1. The Sox are erring on the side of caution with Andrew Vaughn, who is day to day with lower back soreness. The Sox have been resting the first baseman recently.“Andrew’s going to take a few days off,” Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “He’s had a ton of ABs — I think the last time I checked he had (31) at-bats. He’s played a ton.”Vaughn last played March 12 against the Los Angeles Angels. He is hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one double, one triple, one home run and four RBIs wit...Winderman’s view: Is the Omer Yurtseven era flaming out, as Heat fall?

Observations and other notes of interest from Saturday night’s 113-99 loss to the Chicago Bulls:– It’s almost as if Heat coach Erik Spoelstra merely is looking to buy time in the absence of sidelined center Cody Zeller, who is recovering from a procedure for the nasal fracture sustained last Saturday in Orlando.– This time, after three ineffective minutes in his initial stint, second-year Omer Yurtseven did not return in the first half, with Kevin Love instead shifted to center when Adebayo took his second break of the game.– Then, when starting center Bam Adebayo took his first break of the second half, it was Haywood Highsmith entering for the first time, instead of Yurtseven.– Even with Love also out of the game at the time.– In other words, Spoelstra was more willing to go with a front line of Highsmith, Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin than tempt the fates with Yurtseven.– Only grabage time saw a return of Yurtseven.– With Zell...Lemon Grove shooting leaves one injured

In the hours after some of Silicon Valley Bank’s biggest customers started pulling out their money, a WhatsApp group of startup founders who are immigrants of color ballooned to more than 1,000 members.Questions flowed as the bank’s financial status worsened. Some desperately sought advice: Could they open an account at a larger bank without a Social Security Number? Others questioned whether they had to physically be at a bank to open an account, because they’re visiting parents overseas. One clear theme emerged: a deep concern about the broader impact on startups led by people of color. While Wall Street struggles to contain the banking crisis after the swift demise of SVB — the nation’s 16th largest bank and the biggest to fail since the 2008 financial meltdown — industry experts predict it could become even harder for people of color to secure funding or a financial home supporting their startups. SVB had opened its doors to such entrepreneurs, offering opportunities t...N.Y.P.D., F.B.I, State Troopers, Secret Service and National Guard, Ready For Trump Protestor

Amid a dry start to the weekend, Monterey County officials on Saturday lifted more evacuation orders in inland regions where flood conditions from an atmospheric river storm earlier in the week had driven tens of thousands from their homes.Residents who live in a number of evacuation zones toward the county’s northern areas have been cleared to return, including in the former sugar town of Spreckels, south of Highway 68.With meteorologists expecting low weekend rain totals ahead of a wetter weather system on Monday, county officials said flood levels at the Salinas River were actively receding.Still, about a 200-mile stretch of Highway 1 — much of it along the Big Sur coast, a road-trip favorite among tourists — remains closed, from the historic Deetjen’s Inn to Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County. Portions of the highway are expected to remain shut down through the weekend. And meanwhile, a return home is yet to appear on the horizon for thousands of farmw...Pageau, Sorokin lead Islanders to 4-1 win over Sharks
