How many snow days will Arlington students get this winter?

Published Thu, 27 Feb 2025 08:20:31 GMT

Students in Arlington, Virginia, will have a number of traditional snow days before they have to log on for virtual classes this winter, Superintendent Francisco Durán said at last Thursday’s school board meeting. If a weather event prompts school to close, Durán said the school system will fully close for up to 13 days. The number is based on the school year’s calendar, which has to provide students with 180 days or 990 hours of class time to be in compliance with Virginia law.If the county uses each of those 13 days, Arlington Public Schools would then turn to distance learning to meet the annual learning requirements, Durán said. To avoid virtual learning once all of the traditional snow days are used, Durán said the county would have to consider extending the school year or disrupting spring break.“Our plan is to not disrupt the spring break or extend the school year,” Durán said Thursday. “If we go more than 13, we would, on those days, revert to distance learning. And obviously...

They also snapped a five-game losing streak in the series by beating the Musketeers for the first time since December 2001. The schools hadn’t met since 2012....

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo had 35 points and 11 rebounds and Bobby Portis also had a double-double in the Milwaukee Bucks’ 118-109 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.“He was phenomenal the whole game,” Bucks coach Adrian Griffin said of Antetokounmpo. “We needed him down the stretch, and he kind of took things in his own hands.”Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard returned to action after missing two games with a calf injury, though he shot just 3 of 17 while scoring 12 points. The Bucks lost both games they played without the seven-time all-NBA guard.“I felt pretty good,” Lillard said. “If I didn’t feel good enough to play, I wouldn’t have played. But I think any time you miss time, especially when you’re already kind of behind to begin with, it’s going to have some sort of effect. But given the circumstances, I felt pretty good.”The Bulls were playing for the second straight night after beating the Detroit Pistons 119-108 at home on Sunday.Bob...

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Wil Lutz got a do-over and kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired, and the Denver Broncos won their third straight by rallying for a 24-22 victory over the sloppy, turnover-prone Buffalo Bills on Monday night.Lutz got a second chance after he missed wide right with four seconds remaining from 41 yards, but the play was negated when Buffalo was flagged for having 12 players on the field. Lutz also overcame his own struggles in a game he missed an extra point by hitting the left upright, and was unable to get another extra-point attempt off when holder Riley Dixon bobbled the snap. ESPN: Michael Malone extends contract, will be among highest paid coaches After Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen scampered in from 6 yards to give the Bills their first and only lead, Russell Wilson oversaw a 10-play, 57-yard drive to set up Lutz’s field goal. Editorial: Transparency just a buzzword in Bay State politics

Published Thu, 27 Feb 2025 08:20:31 GMT

Transparency is a four-letter word in Massachusetts politics.Putting a pin in the State Legislature’s efforts to stop Auditor Diana DiZoglio from opening the books, the most egregious example of late comes from the top.Gov. Maura Healey will no longer disclose her out-of-state travel in advance, it was reported late last week. This came after Healey took a trip to North Carolina in early October without it being made public at the time. Her office said the new policy is due to unspecified “security concerns.”This is quite a change from the Maura Healey of February 2022, who, as a gubernatorial candidate, backed a bill that would make the governor’s office follow the state public records law.“AG Healey has long supported updating the public records law to cover the Governor’s Office in the interest of transparency and accountability,” Healey spokesperson Jillian Fennimore said. The problem, Healey learned after becoming governor, was that tran...
