Seahawks take winding route to reach 3-1, but show off their potential getting to the mark RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Mapping out the Seattle Seahawks schedule before the season began, sitting at 3-1 heading into the bye week appeared the optimal outcome. And that’s precisely where the Seahawks sit, even if the route wandered a bit getting to that mark.“We’re finishing the first quarter of the schedule. So, with a lot of hope and looking toward the future, and developing the young guys, seeing them able to play a role for us just gives us the confidence that we’re going to keep getting better,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “So, we’re not a finished product, we’re just getting rolling.”Seattle won its third straight game on Monday night with a 24-3 thumping of the New York Giants where the defense grabbed the spotlight, highlighting the different ways the Seahawks have reached their mark through four games. It was Seattle’s offense that carried it to a 37-31 overtime win over Detroit in Week 2. Week 3 was a mix of strong special teams, solid run defense and a big second half o...

Bayern beats Copenhagen 2-1 in the Champions League to extend its winning run COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Bayern Munich needed a late goal from Mathys Tel to continue its winning streak in Champions League group-stage games with a 2-1 win at Copenhagen on Tuesday. With the score at 1-1, youth and experience combined for the winning goal as 34-year-old Thomas Müller picked up a pass from Harry Kane, held off two defenders and then played in 18-year-old French forward Tel to blast the ball into the net in the 83rd minute. It was a rare moment of cohesive, creative team play from Bayern after the German champion spent most of the game frustrated by Copenhagen’s deep, compact defense and was vulnerable to the Danish team’s counterattacks.Tel’s goal extended Bayern’s remarkable run of wins in Champions League group-stage games to 15 since a draw with Atletico Madrid in 2020, a competition record. Bayern is also 36 games unbeaten in the group stage since 2017.Lukas Lerager opened the scoring for Copenhagen in the 56th but Jamal Musiala responded for Bayern 11 m...

Movie Review: Her voice is lower, but Joan Baez has songs to sing and secrets to tell in new doc

Movie Review: Her voice is lower, but Joan Baez has songs to sing and secrets to tell in new doc Bob Dylan called it her “heart-stopping soprano,” and it’s true that when Joan Baez unleashed that pure, angelic voice on the protest song “We Shall Overcome,” you could believe we would, indeed, overcome. The celebrated folk singer and activist was singing about civil rights, of course. But what we learn in the thoughtful, thorough and sometimes harrowingly intimate “Joan Baez: I Am a Noise” is that Baez was also seeking to overcome much on a personal scale: anxiety, depression, loneliness and, late in life, troubling repressed memories about her own father. If that sounds like a lot to cover in 113 minutes, it is — especially because the new documentary, directed by Maeve O’Boyle, Miri Navasky and Karen O’Connor, also recaps a 60-year performing career, with the singer telling her story through interviews and an incredible wealth of archival material. We see Baez entering for the very first time a storage unit filled to the ceiling by her late mother with photos, home films, audio r...
