Woods extends Masters cut streak to record-tying 23 straight AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Tiger Woods can thank good friend Justin Thomas for helping to extend his streak of consecutive cuts made at the Masters to a record-tying 23 on Saturday.Woods was in danger of missing it for the first time as a professional when he resumed his second round in cold, driving rain and bogeyed his final two holes. That left Woods at 3 over and tied for 52nd, while the top 50 and ties make the cut.Moments after Woods signed his scorecard, though, Thomas missed a short par putt at the 17th, dropping him to 3-over and bringing everyone at that number inside the cut line. Thomas then bogeyed the 18th, ensuring Woods would play the rest the weekend and match Fred Couples and Gary Player for the longest streak of cuts made at the Masters.“I’ve always loved this golf course, and I love playing this event,” Woods said before Thomas finished. “I hope I get a chance to play this weekend — I’m sorry, I got a chance to play on the weekend. I wish I get a chance to play tw...

Column: How much longer will Tiger making cut be worth it? AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — For Tiger Woods, it’s come to this. He’s no longer a factor at the top of the leaderboard.Instead, the golfer who provided some of the game’s most electrifying moments can be found plodding along at the cut line, his primary goal simply to make it to the weekend. He backed into another bit of Masters history on a cold, rainy Saturday morning at Augusta National, making his 23rd consecutive cut to tie the tournament record shared by Gary Player and Fred Couples. Woods has never missed the Masters cut as a professional, a remarkable accomplishment in a career filled with them. But it feels so un-Tiger-like.He’s about winning green jackets, not surviving the cut.Woods closed his weather-delayed second round with back-to-back bogeys for a 1-over round of 73. When he walked off the course, he was one shot above the projected cut of 2-over 146.But the line jumped to 3 over when Justin Thomas imploded down the stretch, earning Woods and several other gol...

Aaron Boone’s latest Aaron Hicks comments show how far outfielder has fallen

Aaron Boone’s latest Aaron Hicks comments show how far outfielder has fallen BALTIMORE — Aaron Hicks didn’t play in the Yankees’ 7-6 loss to the Orioles on Friday, yet his name still drew attention. That’s not the first time that’s happened to the outfielder this year, as Hicks has taken a back seat to just about everyone on the Yankees’ depth chart. That seat has come with a belt firmly fastened to the team’s bench, save for a few starts on April 3 and 4. Aside from that, Hicks has just one other at-bat this season; he’s 0-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts.Aaron Boone had two chances to use Hicks on Friday, but he instead chose Isiah Kiner-Falefa on both occasions. “IKF” is also hitting .000 and had never played the outfield in the majors before this season, but that didn’t stop him from pinch-hitting for lefty-swinging right fielder Franchy Cordero — who homered earlier in the game — when the Orioles turned to southpaw Danny Coulombe in the sixth.“I like the chance of I...

Whirling disease detected at New Mexico fish hatchery SANTA ROSA, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico wildlife managers will have fewer rainbow trout to stock in rivers and streams around the state this spring after whirling disease was detected at a state hatchery where some of the fish are raised. The state Game and Fish Department announced Friday that while the disease was found in only low levels at the Rock Lake State Fish Hatchery in eastern New Mexico, the agency will euthanize about 70,000 trout in the affected portions of the hatchery to reduce the chance of the disease spreading. Whirling disease has not been detected in a New Mexico hatchery since 2007. “The department will continue to investigate the source of this infection and will continue to perform routine fish-health testing at state-owned fish hatcheries across the state,” the agency said in a statement. The Rock Lake hatchery is the state’s primary catchable trout-rearing station. It produces 300,000 trout a year for stocking statewide. It also raises bass, walleye, catfish, blu...

Mobile home park residents form co-ops to save their homes PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — When Gadiel Galvez learned that the owner of his mobile home park south of Seattle was looking to sell, he and other residents worried their largely Latino community would be bulldozed to make way for another Amazon warehouse. So, they decided to form a cooperative and buy their park in Lakewood, Washington. With help from a nonprofit that advises communities like theirs and helps them secure loans, they bought it for $5.25 million. Since becoming owners in September, everyone’s worked to make improvements.“Everybody thought, ‘You know what? … I’m going to make this place the best that I can,’” said Galvez, 22, who is a co-op board member. “Some people painted their homes, some people remodeled their interiors and exteriors, and some are working on their roofs.”With rents rising at mobile home parks nationwide, advocates tout the cooperative model as a way to preserve one of the last affordable housing options for people with low- or fixed-incomes and to g...
